Os fatores prognósticos para o câncer de mama são empregados tanto para dizer o prognóstico da doença como para selecionar aquelas pacientes que
provavelmente se beneficiariam da adoção de terapia adjuvante. Foi realizada uma
revisão da literatura sobre os fatores prognósticos histopatológicos do câncer de
mama, sendo a presença de metástases para linfonodos axilares reconhecida como o
mais importante fator preditor dessa neoplasia. Além da presença de linfonodos
comprometidos e do seu número, são também reconhecidos como fatores prognósticos
independentes a idade da paciente (as mais jovens apresentando pior prognóstico), o
tamanho do tumor, o grau histológico e a presença de invasão vascular.
