Abstract

Aim: To eva/uate the response rate, time to progression and toxicity ofthe association of
gemcitabine and cisplatin for metastatic breast câncerpreviousiy treated with anthracyclines.
Patients and methods: Twenty-five patients were induded presenting metastases clinically
and/or radiologically measurab/e. The chemotherapy regimen induded gemcitabine 750mg/m2
and cisplatin 30mg/m2, Dl and D8, every21 days. Resu/ts: A mean of5.2 cydes was performed.
There was complete response in four cases (16%), partial in nine (36%), stable in four(16%)
and progression in eight (32%). The mean and the median time to progression were 32 and 24
weeks, respectively. There was 60% of GI/II hematological toxicity. Grade I gastrointestinal
toxicity occurred in 48% ofthe cases, grade II in 4% and grades III/IV in 12%. Condusion:
The association between gemcitabine and cisplatin showed a good response rate and was well
toierated. Therefore, this regimen shouid be considered as a good option for the patients with
metastatic breast câncer who failed to anthracyclines.
