Abstract

The last century was a period of extraordinary evo/ution in understanding breast câncer
biological behavior and treatment. Randomized tria/s have clearly demonstrated that conservative
surgicalprocedures are equally effective as those procedures deve/oped one century ago, as
radical mastectomy. This trial was set up in order to demonstrate the evo/ution ofthe breast
câncer surgi cai treatment at Erasto Gaertner Hospital. Correia ting the surgical procedure and
the period when it was done with the lesion TNMstaging, andalso reporting the local recurrences
data, it was possible to demonstrate three distinct decades concerning the radicality in surgical
treatment of breast câncer at Erasto Gaertner Hospital.
