Abstract

We studied the case of a 44-year-o/d female patient with a hard, pain/ess and fixed
axillary mass with 4cm in d ia meter. The mammography showed a dense axiiiary mass, at the
axiiiary taii. Uitrasonography showed a hypoecoic noduie with centrai ecogenicity and regular
borders, measuring 3.4cm x 2. lcm, with hypervascuiarization in doppier color suggesting atypicai
iymphonode. The histopatho/ogic study found s/x lymphonodes, the biggerone measured 2.5cm
x 1.6cm with giant ce/ls granuioma, muitinuciear cei/s, epithe/ioid ce/is, centrai necrosis with
debris and po/ymorphonuciear cells, suggesting granuiomatosis iymphadenitis, cat scratch
disease. Actuaiiy, occuitbreast carcinoma clinicai/y shows an axiiiary mass and the histopatho/ogic
study ís highiy recommended before the therapeutic decision is ma de. The etioiogy of the cat
scratch disease is the inocuiation oABartonella henselae by scratch orbite ofcats. It causes a
regional subacute iymphadenitis with an incubation period from three to 30 days where the
acommited site presents with red skin and papules or vesicles.
