BREAST CÂNCER TREATMENT - NEW DRUGS
Keywords:
Hormoniotherapy, Chemotherapy, New drugs, Breast câncerAbstract
The breast câncer response to hormonal therapy is well known for more than one
century by the results of oophorectomy. Endocrine therapy with tamoxifen, have proved
decreasing in relapses as an adjuvant treatment and also objectives responses in
patient with metastatic disease. Different hormonal strategies have been searched with
the second-generation of anti-oestrogen. These new anti-oestrogen, similars to
tamoxifen, with less side effects, have been studied such as selective oestrogen receptor
modulators.
New chemotherapy drugs studied in the last decade, estabilish one of the highest
progress in the breast câncer chemotherapy. The taxanes are used gathered with
antracyclines in the first line treatment in the worst prognoses cases or kept apart in metastic disease, antimetabolites, tubulin-active drugs and new antracyclines are
appraised in clinicai trials fase III.
Finally, the biological treatment with developing monoclonal antibodies against
the oncoprotein Her2/neu will offer hope for the future. New drugs with less toxicitiy
should be developed considering tumor biological characteristics.
