Abstract

Objective: to study by histeroscopy and histopathology the influence of tamoxifen
on the proliferactive endometrial activity of post-menopausal women with previous
breast câncer. Method: 46 patients, 20 of them were using tamoxifen for a médium
lenght of time of 12 months were studied prospectively. Hysteroscopy with endometrial
biopsy was performed before and after the use of the drug. Results: the rates of
endometrial activity before and after the hormonal therapy were the same, that is, 10%.
Conclusion: the hormonal therapy with tamoxifen did not increase the endometrial
proliferactive activity of post menopausal patients with breast câncer. The most common
histeroscopical finding was numerous vesicles disseminated throughout the uterine
cavity, probably due to atrophy of the endometrium.
