Abstract

The authors studied 59 patients with breast carcinomas (stage 1 = 52,5%; II = 20,4%;
III = 22% and IV = 5,1%). In 55 it was possib/e to know the status of the lymphonodes:
58,2% free and 41,8% with metastasis. In ali cases the presence of protein HER-2/NEU was
evaiuated: 59,3% negative (n) e and 40,7% positive (p). The reiation between the presence of
HER-2/NEU and stages showed: stage I = 60% n and 41,7% p; II = 17,1% n and 25% p; III
= 14,3% n and 33,3% p; IV = 8,6% n and 0% p. The relationship between HER-2/NEU and
lymphonodes showed: among negative lymphonodes 65,7% were HER-2/NEU negative and
45% were positive. Among positive lymphonodes: 34% HER-2/NEU absent and 55% present.
The authors conduded that there is a correia tion between the presence of HER-2/NEU and bad
prognostic factors in spite of the little significance and the few number of cases studied.
